How To Care For Your Jewellery

Luxury body jewellery is designed for long-term wear, but proper care ensures it remains safe, beautiful, and secure for years to come.

Whether you wear implant grade titanium, solid gold, or gemstone-set pieces, thoughtful maintenance makes all the difference.

Daily Wear: What’s Safe & What to Avoid

✔ Implant Grade Titanium

ASTM-certified implant grade titanium is extremely durable, corrosion-resistant, and ideal for everyday wear. It can be worn long-term, including during sleep and showering.

However, even titanium benefits from occasional cleaning to remove product build-up.

✔ Solid Gold Piercing Jewellery

Nickel-free 14k or 18k solid gold is safe for continuous wear. Over time, gold can accumulate residue from skincare, hair products, and cosmetics, regular gentle cleaning keeps it bright.

For threadless jewellery it's a good idea to check the attachment is pushed in flush to the post regularly.

For threaded jewellery, best to check jewellery is tightly screwed all the way onto the post regularly.

You can do this using powder free gloves for extra grip and avoid bacteria getting into a fresh piercing.

Please don't use any tools on solid gold jewellery as gold is soft and it is easily damaged. For titanium jewellery although its difficult to damage, the use of tools are still not recommended as they can cause surface scratches.

Cleaning Your Body Jewellery

For healed piercings:

  1. Remove jewellery (if fully healed).

  2. Clean gently with warm water and toothpaste using a soft bristle toothbrush..

  3. Rinse thoroughly.

  4. Pat dry with a lint-free cloth.

Avoid harsh chemicals, hydrogen peroxide, or abrasive cleaners.

For jewellery that cannot be removed, gently clean around the area with saline and remove product build-up using a soft cloth.

Avoid Product Build-Up

Hair products, fake tan, skincare, sunscreen, and makeup can build up behind decorative ends and around stones.

To prevent dullness and irritation:

  • Wipe jewellery after applying skincare.

  • Clean more frequently if you use heavy products.

  • Remove jewellery before applying fake tan where possible.

Protecting Gemstones & Crystals

High-quality piercing jewellery may feature Swarovski crystals, natural gemstones, or lab-grown diamonds.

To protect stones:

  • Avoid catching jewellery on clothing or towels.

  • Check prong settings periodically.

  • Remove jewellery before high-impact activities.

Sleeping & Exercise

Implant grade titanium and properly fitted gold jewellery are generally safe for sleeping.

However:

  • Ensure posts are correctly sized (not excessively long).

  • Avoid sleeping directly on fresh piercings.

  • Be mindful of snagging during workouts.

For contact sports, removal may be advised once healed.

Swimming & Water Exposure

Titanium is highly corrosion-resistant and safe in water.

Gold is generally safe, but repeated chlorine exposure can dull its finish over time.

Pearls should never be exposed to chlorinated or salt water.

After swimming:

  • Rinse jewellery with fresh water.

  • Pat dry thoroughly.

When to Remove Jewellery

Remove jewellery if:

  • A stone becomes loose.

  • Threads feel compromised.

  • You are undergoing a medical procedure requiring removal.

Always have a professional piercer refit or replace jewellery if unsure.

Pearl Jewellery

Pearls are organic and far softer than metals or gemstones.

They should not be worn continuously in body piercings. Avoid:

  • Showering in pearl jewellery

  • Exposing pearls to perfume or hairspray

Pearls are best reserved for occasional wear, not everyday long-term styling.

Storage Tips

If rotating jewellery:

  • Store pieces separately to avoid scratching.

  • Store pearls in a soft pouch away from direct sunlight.

  • Avoid airtight plastic bags for pearls, they need minimal moisture.

Regular Professional Checks

Luxury body jewellery benefits from:

  • Professional downsizing after healing

  • Periodic fit checks

  • Thread integrity checks

Routine jewellery assessments help prevent issues before they occur.
